We'd like to tell you about our favorite Holiday gift for children: a $25 Kiva Gift Card
Kiva is a non-profit organization which allows people to lend money through the internet to people in developing countries. With a Kiva gift card, a child can log onto the Kiva website, and choose from one of thousands of borrowers in developing countries to lend $25 to. When the borrower repays the loan, your child can select a new person to re-lend the same money to!
Our first Kiva loan was to Narcisa, a lady who sells fruit and vegetables in her village in the Philippines. She uses the loans from Kiva to increase the inventory of her business. She uses the profits from her business to send her kids to school.
Kiva is a terrific way of involving your children in charitable giving, and reading through the profiles of potential borrowers will give them real insight into the conditions in developing countries.
K5 Learning is a proud supporter of Kiva. Please consider joining our Kiva Group!
