As Spring Break rolls around for many families, we thought we’d look at activities and software that will engage their young minds. For many of us (those of us not going skiing or heading to Disneyland), this is a time to fit in visits to local museums and parks, and explore new activities.
So, we thought we’d spend this week looking at activities you can do at home – for those days you don’t feel like heading out. We’ll be focusing on online activities and learning software that’ll help expand your kids’ minds, yet be engaging and fun.
This first installment is for the young writers in your family. Many kids love to write stories – they are so full of creative ideas and their imagination just pours out of them. How they choose to express that imagination probably differs – through play, writing, drawing, for example. If your kid has ever attempted to write a book to express these ideas, you’ll want to take a look at Story Wizard.
Story Wizard helps the young author through the story writing process with story templates to develop story plot and structure, character development (with over 1 billion name combinations available), a place name database covering the world, a full dictionary and thesaurus, and guidance along the way.
Aimed at kids aged 9-16, its approach is to continually ask questions to coax the story out of the writer. The author makes selections to set the stage for their story and the software provides the tools for the young writer to create a story full of characters, objects, places and events.
