I came across a great infographic that sparked some thinking on my part. It was created by Jackie Gerstein, Ed. D. at User Generated Education. Over the next few days, we’ll take a look at each of the skills our kids need to succeed, and what we as parents can do to help foster these skills in our kids.
Let’s get started. Today, I’d like to introduce you to the infographic Jackie Gerstein created and the skills she has identified as critical for our kids. She in turn has gleaned this information from a Gallup presentation, called The Economics of Human Development: the path to winning again in education. You can read her blog post here.
Jackie identifies the critical skills as follows:
Empathy and Global Stewardship
I would also like to add to our list those that she identified from Tony Wagner (Seven Survival Skills) and those are:
Critical thinking and problem-solving
Collaboration
Agility and adaptability
Initiative and entrepreneurialism
Effective oral and written communication
Accessing and analyzing information
Curiosity and imagination
Want to join the conversation? Am I missing any areas? What other skills do you think our kids need to succeed?
