Let’s face it, we’re all busy. School, recreational activities, homework, dinner, some down-time and proper sleep all need to fit into 24 hours. As parents we’re acutely aware that our involvement with our children’s routines has a direct correlation to their academic success. Providing a routine for homework, enriching afterschool activities, chores and rewarding down-time activities helps our children succeed both academically and in personal growth.
Letting Go to Let Your Child Take Charge
One of the areas that we struggle with constantly in our family is organization. Where’s your school sweater? Did you practice your piano? Did you remember your gym kit? Did you finish your homework assignment? As a mother, I constantly struggle with teaching my child to take responsibility for her things, activities, homework and chores – in part I think it’s because I don’t like to see her fail. What if she forgets to turn in her homework?
My Job Chart Helps Kids Stay Organized
So, you can imagine how pleased I was to find this free resource online – I think it will help both my daughter and I get on the same page. My Job Chart helps kids and parents to schedule their daily activities. Once the chores, homework time, piano practice, among other activities have been assigned, the child signs in to see their activities for that day – holding your child accountable for their responsibilities.
Based on a Reward System
Once completed, they click on done, earning them reward points. Completed activities are assigned to a reward system. In our house we like to reward our child with activities she likes to do, such as going for a family bike ride, going to the cinema or time playing on the computer. I think you get the picture – your child completes their activities and they receive a reward.
We’re going to try out this system to see how it works for us.
