K5 Web Site Report Card: Ocean Portal

Ocean portal

About: Developed by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, the Ocean Portal is an interactive site about everything you could possibly want to know about our oceans.

Features: Packed full of videos, photography, multimedia presentations, articles and essays, this really is the go-to source for learning about the ecosystems of our oceans.  The site encourages visitors to leave comments, provide feedback and pose questions to continue to evolve the content they keep adding to the site.

We think: it’s easy to loose hours on this site.  Each topic is well-presented, packed full of facts, amazing photography, videos and opportunities for the visitor to interact.  We really like that each topic has lesson plans and activities geared towards educators, but who’s to say that parents can’t take a peek at this information too for their kids to do at home?  A fabulous site well worth coming back to - again and again.
