JC Penney thinks Girls are too Pretty to do Homework

Sometimes large companies do harebrained things.  Today, it’s JC Penney.

JC Penny t-shirt

This cuts too close to the bone for many parents.  And the bloggers are at it.  I feel the same.  How can a large corporation, such as JC Penney, with the capacity to carry positive messages to such a large audience – debunk what we’ve tried so hard to avoid.

It's hard to come up with a more offensive slogan to young women and education. It's sexist and it devalues education. In a world where so many of us try to make a positive contribution to building self-confidence in young women and bring positive messages about education for both girls and boys, it takes just one wrong move, like this one, to bring it all back to the surface.

Yes, granted, JC Penney has pulled the t-shirt from their product line.  However, the damage is done.  Let’s see how JC Penney fixes this PR disaster?
