My StoryMaker is a fun little application for budding young writers. Developed by Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center and designed for use within Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, the library has opened it up for public use on any Internet-based computer.
Taking your Child through Story Making Step by Step
The StoryMaker includes a series of characters and objects for your child to include in their story. Clicking on the “My StoryMaker” button on its homepage will start the application. Once you’ve given permission to start, you’ll be taken through a few screens to:
Author your story
Create your characters and set your storyline
And then you’re off to the races. You can create different sceneries, insert characters, items and objects, and write your story.
A few things to note with this program:
You cannot go back and edit the story once you have ended it.
If you click ‘yes’ when asked to share it with others, you can print it out again by entering the magic number provided.
All stories are deleted after a month, so if you want to keep it, save it as a PDF file on your computer.
There are some issues with current versions of Adobe Reader and FlashPlayer, as this program was developed for older versions of these programs. You may encounter some problems saving and printing the stories.
