In our children’s book authors series, Dianne Bloomberg tells us about her charming book that will help young kids prepare for the first day of school.
By Dianne Bloomberg
As a writer of all things connected to communication, I wanted to zero in on children being faced with the first day of school in and tapping into the older generation for help. Through communication, we not only keep the paths open between us, but also we learn from one another.
Connecting with Grandson in Florida
This book came about when my grandson was born in Florida, while I lived in Colorado. I was worried he would only know me as “the funny lady who lives where it snows.” I approached the problem as I do all others, I started writing. My grandson’s name is Sam; you may have guessed. Today at the age of 16 he still proudly admits, “Yes, I am the little boy in that book.”
A Conversation Starter
This delightful book is perfect for the first day of school for any child in K-3 and can be helpful also when students in this age bracket change schools. In the back of the book there are “helper pages” that get the conversation going between parents or care-givers and children. Many readers tell me these ideas are really helpful to reach beyond the book to help their children.
Preparing for the First Day of School
From Amazon.com: A Product Description: “Offering parents and other caregivers a valuable tool for preparing a child for the milestone event of starting school, this cheerful tale portrays a boy's first day at school. His story helps acquaint children with what they can expect as they start kindergarten or first grade and explore the wide range of feelings they may initially experience until the setting becomes more familiar. A special section helps adults prepare children to greet the first day of school with enthusiasm and confidence.”
