If you follow the K5 Learning blog, you know we’re big fans of authors. We even run a regular series introducing children’s book authors to help promote children’s fiction and non-fiction. So when we came across this contest for writers young and old, we just had to spread the word. For the purpose of our blog, we’ll be focusing on the young writers, but all budding mom writers out there – note that this contest is also open to you.
What is NaNoWriMo?
The National Novel Writing Month takes place every November. Its purpose is to encourage young writers to complete an entire novel in 30 days. Young writers set up their account on the site, submit their target word count and get started on writing their novel. There are lots of resources, helpful tips and a forum on the site to keep your writer going.
How to get Started?
Here's the best place to get started.
We also found they have “young writer workbooks” for elementary, middle and high school. Packed full of activities, each workbook takes your budding authors through the writing process, step by step. Here’s the writer workbook for elementary school kids.
Happy writing!
